Established by his family in 1900, Sébastien Riffault’s estate spans 12 hectares across Sancerre, Verdigny, and Sury-en-Vaux. Sébastien took over in 2004, and after initial trials with organic practices, the estate was officially certified organic in 2010 and later achieved biodynamic certification (Demeter). The vineyards are planted on hills near the Loire River, with soils rich in limestone and silica, perfectly suited to Sauvignon Blanc. Farming is conducted with minimal intervention, often using horses to aerate the soil and enhance biodiversity, avoiding chemicals entirely. With low yields, meticulous care, and late harvests, the grapes achieve exceptional concentration and flavor. These practices produce wines that are like drinking an old, pure Sancerre, reflecting the style and authenticity of the grandfather’s generation, free from modern technological intervention. Each vintage captures the unique personality of its terroir, expressing the minerality, depth, and elegance that define traditional Sancerre while preserving its historical essence.
