Hubert & Heidi Hausherr

Alsace

Eguishem

Hubert and Heidi Hausherr are independent winemakers cultivating 4.65 hectares of family-owned vineyards near Eguisheim, a picturesque village in the heart of Alsace renowned for its Grand Cru sites, Eichberg and Pfersigberg. Alsace is a region celebrated for its aromatic whites, structured reds, and a remarkable diversity of terroirs, ranging from marly limestone to sandstone and clay soils. Drawing on this heritage, the Hausherrs focus on biodiversity and traditional practices: the vineyards are worked by hand and with the help of their horse, Skippy, with minimal mechanization, and co-plantation of multiple grape varieties allows for the creation of complex, multi-varietal blends unique to the region. Their approach reflects the old-world Alsatian tradition of letting the land dictate the character of the wines while embracing modern curiosity for experimentation. Each plot is managed individually to respect its specific soil composition and microclimate, enhancing the depth and individuality of the final wines.
In the cellar, Hubert and Heidi uphold their philosophy of natural winemaking. They use two hand-built vertical wooden presses to gently extract juice, and fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. No additives, including sulfites, are used, letting the wines fully express their terroir. The mosaic of soils, combined with low yields and careful vinification, produces wines of finesse, depth, and authenticity. Every bottle embodies the character of Eguisheim’s slopes, from the sun-warmed sandstone to the cooler limestone pockets. The Hausherrs’ dedication to natural methods not only showcases the elegance and complexity of Alsace but also preserves its heritage, offering a sensory journey through one of France’s most distinctive wine regions.
