Jura

Rotalier

The Labet family has been an integral part of Jura winemaking for generations. Domaine Labet was formally established in 1974 by Alain Labet, who inherited old vines from his father and grandfather. From the outset, Alain focused on expressing the individuality of each terroir, pioneering single-parcel bottlings in the Jura. His children—Julien, Charline, and Romain—took over in 2012, bringing their complementary skills to vinification, oenology, and vineyard management. After gaining experience in Beaune, Meursault, and South Africa, Julien convinced his father to replace traditional foudres with barrels and focus on ouillé cuvées, preserving the purity of fruit while respecting the family’s values. Over the years, the domaine embraced fully organic practices, preserving old vines and continuing the philosophy of letting each vineyard express its unique character naturally. The family remains committed to crafting wines that reflect the story of their small terroir in the Sud Revermont, capturing its history, soils, and microclimates in every bottle.
Domaine Labet’s vineyards span 13.5 hectares across the Sud Revermont, a sunny, southern Jura region with limestone-rich soils and a rare clay-limestone scree over Bajocian slabs. These soils are ideal for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, offering excellent root penetration and a perfect stage for terroir expression. A significant proportion of the vines are old and propagated through massal selection, meaning each vine carries a distinct genetic heritage, preserving centuries of diversity. Some vines ripen early, others show higher acidity, and some reveal subtle notes of muscatel, tannins, or botrytis-prone character. Each vine is like an individual musician, contributing its own voice to a symphony: together, they create a layered, complex harmony of flavors and textures in every wine. The vineyard’s diversity, combined with moderate yields and careful organic practices (including grazing, herbal preparations, and meticulous canopy management) ensures that the personality of each parcel shines through. The subtle variations of sun exposure, soil composition, and slope orientation are captured in the wines, giving each bottle a unique sense of place, age-worthiness, and vitality. Every parcel, every vine, tells a story, and the resulting wines are living compositions of the land itself.
