Established in 1874 by Joseph Bertrand, Distillerie Bertrand in Uberach, Alsace, has a long tradition of producing exceptional eaux-de-vie. In 2003, Jean Metzger, a visionary in the world of spirits, took over the distillery and began crafting distinctive Alsatian whiskies. Utilizing pure water sourced from the Vosges mountains and organic malted barley from a nearby brewery, some lightly peated, he produces single malt whiskies that reflect the exceptional quality of the raw ingredients. Distillation is carried out in traditional stills, combining pot and column methods to preserve the integrity, complexity, and aromatic richness of the spirit. Aging is conducted in French oak barrels, many of which previously held wines from esteemed producers such as Jean-François Ganevat, Jacques Selosse, Domaine Romanée Conti, and Gérard Schuller. Limited single-cask bottlings highlight the rarity, precision, and craftsmanship behind every whisky, ensuring that each expression possesses a distinctive personality and complexity while reflecting the heritage of the Alsace terroir.
